Date/Time: Thursday, October 20, 2011, 6:30 - 8:45 pm Title: Project Management: The Key to Successful Smart Grid Implementation
Abstract:
The vision of the Smart Grid encompasses the following principles: accommodates all generation types including renewables and energy storage options, enables new products, services, and markets, optimizes asset utilization and operating efficiencies, improves system reliability including power quality, and enables informed customer participation. As the electric utility industry moves forward to translate this vision into reality the success starts and ends with Project Management. Smart Grid represents a System-of-System concept as applied to the electric utility operations from end-to-end. Project Management in the Smart Grid context has to cover many functions. These include both hard and soft skills, along with risk and responsibility management. Key Project Management activities will be examined in detail as it relates to organizing and executing a successful Smart Grid Project. Speaker: Jerry Melcher, Executive Advisor, Quanta Technology Jerry has thirty five years of experience in high performance technology management including key positions with Landis & Gyr Systems, EPRI, and American Electric Power (AEP). He has extensive expertise in all aspects of the Smart Grid, including assessment, design, specification, and implementation of operational systems, utility communications power system controllers and field automation. He is the recipient of two EPRI President Awards and received his BSEE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Location:
